South Africa fail to qualify for AFCON U20 tournament!

South Africa will not be represented at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals which will be played between February and March 2023 in Egypt.

South Africa will not be represented at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals which will be played between February and March 2023 in Egypt.

Amajita, coached by Kaizer Chiefs’ Diski Challenge team mentor Vela Khumalo, succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Mozambique on Friday afternoon.

Amajita needed to beat Mozambique in order to book their place in next year’s final but it wasn’t to be despite at times promising to equalise.

On the day, Mozambique raced to a 2-0 lead but the combination of Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba saw the latter pull one back for Amajita before halftime.

However, that proved to be a consolation goal as Mozambique held on to their lead to win the match and book their ticket to the AFCON U20 finals.

Amajita had reached the semi-finals of the Cosafa Cup U20 tournament by hammering Comoros 4-0 on Thursday.

Mozambique will now wait for the winner between Zambia and Angola who will face each other in the final this afternoon.
