Things could soon look up for Ryan Moon, who was recently let go by Kaizer Chiefs after surfacing in Scotland in the colours of Hibernian.

The 22-year-old is without a club after his cobtract with the Soweto giants was not renewed, and was linked with a move back to Maritzburg United, where he began his professional career.

However, a permanent move to the United Kingdom could be on the cards after he was confirmed to be training with the Scottish Premier League outfit, who finished fifth in the recently concluded season.

In an update given out by Hibernian on Twitter, it was revealed that the striker was being assessed by head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

“Paul Heckingbottom will also take a look at South African international striker Ryan Moon after he joined the rest of the squad for pre-season training.

“The 22-year-old is a free agent after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.”

Moon arrived at Chiefs in 2016, and his involvement in first-team football increased steadily under Steve Komphela, but he quickly fell down the pecking order following the Bafana legend’s departure in April 2018.

In his three years at the club, the lanky marksman managed just 13 starts, netting five goals, but did enough to earn eight international caps, netting once.

The player was one of a handful of squad members who were released by Amakhosi in the latter half of last season, in a list which included midfielder Pule Ekstein and goalkeeper Virgil Vries.
