Zakhele Lepasa to leave Orlando Pirates for Europe?

Orlando Pirates are in search for a new striker to bolster their attack, but they also have a few strikers they need to make a decision on.

Besides those already at the club and struggling, there are the likes of Lepasa who were sent out on loan by Pirates to SuperSport United.

Lepasa had initially seemed like he made a good move, joining SuperSport from Pirates, as he started getting regular game time. Towards the end of the season though, his minutes for Gavin Hunt’s side. That fact is what seemed to perplex Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos who has made it no secret that he is an admirer of the player.

Broos has both waxed lyrical about Lepasa’s ability, as well as walking the talk by selecting him and giving him the confidence to lead the line for Bafana Bafana. He has not disappointed him with the player scoring three goals in three starts now for national team. That form showing what he can do when playing for a coach that backs him. That seems to have not always been the case under Jose Riveiro at Pirates.

Just as this publication had reported that Lepasa was set for a return to the Pirates squad next season, it now seems as if that plan could be derailed. This is because the player seems to not only have found possible suitors in South Africa, but beyond the borders of the country, according to Soccer-Laduma. 

Lepasa to leave Pirates for Europe

“It’s come to the Siya crew’s attention that striker Zakhele Lepasa has caught the attention of international scouts. Soccer-Laduma now understands the Bafana Bafana international who has scored in his last two appearances for the national team, has been put on the radar of a few interested suitors overseas. But the stumbling block here is whether Pirates will agree to sell if there’s a genuine offer tabled in the coming months before the window slams shut in August” wrote the publication.

A move abroad would undoubtedly be great for both Lepasa and coach Broos, who has always talked up the striker’s ability. He has also always been an advocate for more players from South Africa to play in Europe at a higher level so they can improve the the quality of Bafana Bafana.
