With Itumeleng Khune set to hang up his boots, Kaizer Chiefs could be forced to bring in a new top goalkeeper.

Kaizer Chiefs might be forced to bring in a top goalkeeper valued at R10 million to compete for top honours.

Amakhosi have brought in Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi as their new coach. After nine years without silverware, Chiefs are restructuring their technical team and recently released five players. More players are expected to join the club in the following weeks but will the players be a perfect fit?

In the past, Kaizer Chiefs never had any issues grooming top goalkeepers; infact, the club has produced some of the best keepers the country has seen. That’s all in the past and with Itumeleng Khune past his peak, Amakhosi has to find a long-term replacement. Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen are not top-class keepers who can change the club’s fortunes.

Earlier this year, Kaizer Chiefs were linked to Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili. The keeper was in great form during the Africa Cup of Nations where he helped Nigeria reach the final. Since his heroics, the 28-year-old shot-stopper has been linked with a move away from South Africa

Former Chippa United coach Morgan said Nwabili was worth R10 million. He told Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified Nwabali was unknown when he joined the Chilli Boys.

“Now, when you ask me, you were hired at Chippa, what have you done for the club? I’d need to be honest.

“I’ve changed some players who were not known to be national team assets. Stanley Nwabali was not known. I changed him,” he said as per FARPost.

“I’ve made a difference at Chippa. I was not being paid for nothing, I was working. I just hope they can sell Stanley [Nwabali] for R10 million.“

It was earlier reported that Nwabali was offered to Kaizer Chiefs, but Amakhosi declined the opportunity to sign the goalkeeper. The R10 million price tag may have put Chiefs off but with Nasreddine Nabi taking over, the club might have to spend big.
