Why Pitso Mosimane can’t fix Kaizer Chiefs

It’s a lot deeper.

We’ll keep this brief, but it’s alarmingly obvious that Pitso Mosimane isn’t the man to fix an ailing Kaizer Chiefs. Here’s why.

Kaizer Chiefs have a host of problems far greater than finding a new coach

The rot goes deep

Right now, Chiefs resemble more of a business and commercial vehicle than a football club. The shareholders seem okay with that too. Pitso Mosimane is a man who demands success, especially in short stints, and Chiefs need a legacy manager to stick around for the long haul. Immediately, it’s clear that there are compatibility issues right off the bat. 2025 will be the tenth anniversary of Kaizer Chiefs not winning a trophy, which is hilarious for Pirates and Sundowns fans, not so much for the long-suffering Amakhosi faithful. Pitso won’t want any part of that.

Is nepotism undermining the club’s legacy?

Some fans certainly think so. @TheeUltimateLee on X, last season it must be said, reckoned Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Motaung Jr, Jessica Motaung and co aren’t fit for the roles entrusted to them within the club. It’s a bold theory, but one worth considering. Has Mr Motaung Jr achieved the objectives laid down to him as the sporting director of the Kaizer Chiefs football club? It’s doubtful. One fan even said he was ‘building his legacy on a wetland.’

Various media sources want you to believe that Chiefs are desperate to sign Pitso Mosimane. Are they though? Is he welcome on the inside of their circle of trust?

Chiefs have become a boring team

Chiefs have played 20 matches this season in the DStv Premiership with those encounters producing a total of 34 goals at an average of 1.7 goals per game. Only Polokwane City have seen matches producing lower averages in that metric with a miserly 1.52 GPG. TS Galaxy’s 18 matches have only seen 31 total goals at an average of 1.72 per game. Last season, Amakhosi plundered just 32 goals in 30 league encounters. That’s not good enough in anybody’s book. Chiefs’ recruitment of strikers has been poor. Which of Caleb Bimenyimana, Christian Saile and Jasond Gonzalez has been a hit at the club? This season’s tally of 19 strikes in 20 games is already on course to get even worse this time around.

There’s a culture of complacency at Naturena

Under Molefi Ntseki results were poor, the team didn’t really have a distinctive playing identity and then unfortunate incidences of fan violence aimed at the former Bafana boss made his position untenable. Chiefs fans also don’t need to be reminded that the club’s last taste of silverware was the 2014-15 DStv Premiership title. What exactly is the plan to put that right? There doesn’t seem to be one, in truth, while family members of Dr Motaung continue to enjoy comfortable roles within the framework of one of Africa’s most popular and profitable clubs. Current interim boss Cavin Johnson started positively and was immediately given more time at the helm because of one or two wins against lowly opposition. However, the same old patterns are emerging. They’d be delighted with a finish inside the top two, which tells you all you need to know about the direction in which the club is heading.

Jingles isn’t the guy, but deep down you already knew that. What drastic changes must be made at the club before they can consider garnishing things with a glamorous new coach? We’re all ears in the comments section below.
