When does Kaizer Chiefs target Pitso learn his Saudi relegation fate?

D-Day in Saudi.

Pitso Mosimane, wanted and chased by Kaizer Chiefs, faces a huge day in the Saudi Pro League survival fight on Monday.

MUSONA AND PITSO MOSIMANE IN A SHOOTOUT FOR SAFETY?

Pitso Mosimane’s mandate was to keep Abha in the top flight when he took over in January. If they get relegated, that’ll undoubtedly be a huge stain on his otherwise stellar managerial career. Abha claimed a critical 2-1 win against Al Khaleej in their last match, and their final fixture is against rock-bottom Al-Hazm. A win there would guarantee safety for Mosimane and his team.

FINAL DAY NAIL-BITER IN SAUDI PRO LEAGUE, EX-KAIZER CHIEFS STAR NOT SAFE

Former Kaizer Chiefs cult hero Knowledeg Musona and Al-Riyadh aren’t officially safe yet either. They were disappointed after a 2-2 draw with 10-man Al Nassr last time out. They’re only above Abha on goal difference and could be reeled in by 16th-placed Al Tai, Musona’s old team. Al-Riyadh is away to Al Khaleej and Al-Tai faces 18th-placed Al Akhdoud on the final day. All matches kick off at 20:00 (SA time) on Monday 27 May. If Abha and Al-Tai win their matches and Al-Riyadh fails to do the same, they and Musona will be relegated. It’s going down to the wire. For the record, Musona didn’t feature in Al-Riyadh’s last fixture and is a doubt for their season finale, so he’ll be relying on his teammates to get the job done, from the sidelines.

HOW MUCH MONEY HAS PITSO MOSIMANE BEEN EARNING?

When he was in charge of Bafana Bafana, Pitso took home roughly R500k a month. Mamelodi Sundowns doubled his money in 2012 when he earned a cool R1 million monthly with the South African champions. In just under eight years at the helm, he won 11 pieces of major silverware. With Al-Ahli Saudi, Pitso was earning a stratospheric R2.7 million a month and they weren’t even a top-flight side; he also landed a huge settlement figure from them. Now with Abha on a short-term deal, Pitso is desperately trying to keep his latest employers in the Saudi Pro League. We can only assume that Abha’s pockets are deeper than Al-Ahli Saudi’s.
