Chiefs are heading into another crucial DStv Premiership clash on Sunday, although the team is still missing several players who are unavailable due to injury.

Currently, Amakhosi are fifth on the league table, and a more realistic target will be for the team to finish the season in second place considering that Mamelodi Sundowns are virtually assured of yet another title.

Meanwhile, Arrows dwell down in 13th, having managed just six wins from 20 games this season.

Saturday’s clash will kick off at 15:30, and ahead of the encounter, we recap two notable pieces of injury news.

It’s quite literally been a painful period for Amakhosi when it comes to the club’s injury count, but fans can breathe a sigh of relief after it was confirmed that youngster Mduduzi Shabalala has not suffered a serious injury.

There were some real worries when Mduduzi Shabalala had to be replaced at half-time in last weekend’s Nedbank Cup clash after taking a heavy knock, but it’s since been confirmed that he simply suffered a dead leg.

Meanwhile, Erick Mathoho has suffered a setback in his injury recovery and could be out ‘for a long time’. According to coach Arthur Zwane, the towering defender looked to have suffered a groin injury during training.

“We were playing a practice match with our reserve team, and then he pulled a muscle and landed awkwardly, so he had to be taken off the field immediately,” Zwane commented.

“And when I looked at him, I was a bit worried as well, and it frustrated me so much that I was looking forward to seeing him back because of his leadership and his, discipline and commitment.”

Finally, with Chiefs and Arrows set to go head-to-head on Saturday, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the two clubs could be locked in another battle for the services of a key player.

Reports and rumours involving Chiefs and Pule Mmodi have been swirling in different directions for months, and despite some recent talk to suggest he might have finally signed a pre-contract with the Soweto giants, this has now been disputed.

“The player hasn’t signed anywhere (despite Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-contract reports), and Arrows are still hopeful of retaining him. He is an important member of their team.” a source told Soccer Laduma.
