Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker has opened up on the abrupt departures of two former Kaizer Chiefs players.

Just a month ago, Stellenbosch confirmed the immediate release of Kgaogelo Sekgota due to off-field trouble.

Sekgota joined Stellenbosch at the beginning of the season after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs.

And now, Darrel Matsheke who also joined the club from Naturena has also been axed due to off-field issues.

According to Barker, the club reached boiling point with the former Kaizer Chiefs duo.

“It’s important that we’re a club that one of our mottos and slogans is modern football. So, we’re there to support and help players to be professional about what they do,” Barker said regarding the former Kaizer Chiefs duo as quoted by FarPost.

“And in both instances, we were there to support and help the players and give them the level of counseling and support throughout.

“But you know, unfortunately, sometimes you just reach the stage where you can not continue tolerating the behavior. Then the club had to make a stand.”

In other news, two Kaizer Chiefs linked players are set to undergo trials in Europe in the coming days.

Stellenbosch youngster Liam De Kock and La Masia youngster Isa Mangera will be traveling to Portugal for trials.

Both defenders have been linked with moves to Kaizer Chiefs during recent months.

De Kock caught the eye of Chiefs after impressing for the Stellenbosch reserve side while Cavin Johnson is reportedly a major fan of 18-year-old Mangera.
