Mamelodi Sundowns made incredidle history in winning the 2023/24 DStv Premiership, but narrowly misssed out of finishing as invisibles with zero defeats. Here’s how coach Rulani Mokwena responded in the dressing room.

No team has ever won the league with six games to spare and eventually a final total of 73 points. Additionally, Sundowns are 25 minutes away from becoming the first ever team to finish the season without loss.

Unfortunately, Cape Town City’s Jayden Rhodes sealed a 1-0 win for the Citizens over Sundowns to spoil Kabo Yellow‘s big party on Saturday.

Check out coach Mokwena’s reaction in the dressing room after the disappointment.

Mamelodi Sundowns will face up with Orlando Pirates in the 2024 Nedbank Cup. The Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro has revealed that his involvement is yet to be guaranteed.

Speaking to the media last week, Ribeiro admitted he is injured but is racing to regain fitness before the final DStv Premiership match against Cape Town City on Saturday.

“Yes, it’s true that I got injured. It’s been a week where I’ve been recovering and I’m happy with the recovery. I believe in the next few days that I will be training with the group and hopefully I will get some minutes before the league ends,” Ribeiro said on Radio 2000, as per the Citizen.

“It’s been a great season for me and I’m grateful to have won the league because it’s great for us as players to win leagues. It adds more to the confidence and everything we work towards,” the Sundowns star added.

“It’s been a pleasure up to this point because I have already won two cups after the African Football League (AFL) and the league. It’s a great decision that I have taken to join the club.

“I’m hoping to win the final game which will make it three. I’ve never won the league in France and Belgium where I played. That also played a vital role in me coming to Sundowns and what was presented to me in terms of the objectives because they want to win everything,” the 25-year-old attacker added.

Meanwhile, Ribiero has just spent a season playing with Mokoena at Sundowns. According to the Brazilian, the 27-year-old from BethlehemFree State, is surprisingly playing in South Africa rather than Europe.

“Actually, Tebza is one of the players, it’s surprises me with all the attributes and the qualities he has, strong physical presence and the ability to score outside the box, shoots and also runs a lot. So, he’s got all the qualities that you can get from a midfielder. It still surprises me that he’s my teammate in South Africa because players of that quality, you probably see them in top clubs in Europe,” Ribeiro said via SABC Sport.

“I asking about him being focused in Sundowns or maybe being actually disturbed by other offers but he said he’s gonna put every focus he has on the last two games or the last games of the league and also to focus on the final, that’s where his mind is at but God decides or takes the final decision. But his mind and everything is towards Sundowns,” the Brazilian attacker concluded.
