Mhango, who was known to torment Chiefs in Soweto Derbies while wearing the black and white colours of arch rivals Orlando Pirates, was thought to have been a medical away from signing.

Rumours of Chiefs being interested in a potential move for Mhango had already been doing the rounds late last season, with a source close to the player opening up on the possibility. When the window had started, however, there seemed to be no movement with regards to that situation, with Amakhosi focusing on other attacking targets.

Chiefs had even gone as far as strengthening with the likes of Ranga Chivaviro, Pule Mmodi, and Tebogo Potsane, before rumours resurfaced in a very rigours manner, linking Mhango to Naturena. In fact, the widespread reports were so strong, that they were suggesting the Malawian international was going to put pen to paper in just a matter of time.

That proved not to be the case, however, as in stunning turn of events, although Mhango did eventually move to a Soweto giant, it ended up being Moroka Swallows instead of Chiefs. Now months since that rumour, the player himself has finally opened up about what really went down.

When Mhango was asked by Soccer-Laduma on their current paper, about the validity of the rumour linking him to Chiefs he said:

Mhango reveals truth over Chiefs transfer rumours

“That is correct. Before I joined Swallows, I was supposed to have joined Chiefs. Even when I left Durban, Chiefs sent me to a medical and then something…I don’t know what, But there was something holding up the other striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana. I was told they needed to check the striker who had gone to Morocco. Then the transfer didn’t happen and he came back.” Said Mhango.
