Although the Brazilians have already been crowned the 2022/23 DSTV Champion, they will be looking to collect three points at home and extend their lead at the top of the log.

In fact, with the league already wrapped up, Sundowns find themselves on 59 lot points with seven games still to play. Quite realistically, Masandawana can surpass the 75-point record for the old 18-team Premier Soccer League (PSL).

This would be a remarkable achievement, and even if that isn’t achieved, they’re almost certain to cruise past the 16-team record, with just 13 points needed from the remaining games to go past that record set by Pitso Mosimane’s Sundowns in 2015-16.

Defender Grant Kekana shared the team’s preparations for the upcoming match, as well as how they will approach the remainder of the domestic league fixtures.

“Cape Town City is a good team, we know that they’re going to come out guns blazing. I think that they also want to reach their target from last season when they finished second. It will be a tough encounter that we will prepare well for and ensure that we give it our best.

“At Mamelodi Sundowns, we play each game to win, so we will keep the same mentality going into the Cape Town City game. We don’t want to be complacent because there’s still a lot to play for. As much as we’ve won the league, there are records that we are willing to break in the league”, said Grant as he communicated the team’s mentality going into the Tuesday evening game.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Cape Town City on Tuesday, 03 April 2023 in the DSTV Premiership. The fixture will take place at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 19h30.
