Unsettled Sirino could join Soweto giants before deadline day

Gaston Sirino joined Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2018 and flourished under then-coach Pitso Mosimane but has struggled since Mokwena took over.

Mamelodi Sundowns out-of-favour winger Gaston Sirino could join Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, according to reports.

The transfer window closes on Friday and teams are running around trying to bring in new players to boost their squads.

One player that is set to leave Sundowns is Sirino. The Uruguayan winger could see himself joining Orlando Pirates by the end of the week, according to Soccer Laduma.

Could Sirino join Orlando Pirates this week?

“The thing is that the player wants to go where he can play and at this moment in time, Pirates have shown interest,” Soccer Laduma said.

The Sea Robbers have already signed Lesedi Kapinga, who just like Sirino, was hardly played by Rulani Mokwena.

The 32-year-old joined Downs back in 2018 and flourished under then-coach Pitso Mosimane but since the departure of Jingles, the South American winger has fallen down the pecking order.

Last month, Mokwena revealed that the club was yet to receive offers from any clubs for Sirino.

“That’s what he’s told the club (that he wants to go). He said I must wait for an offer… there’s an offer that’s coming. This was three weeks ago and we are waiting, because he’s asked us to wait for an offer,” Mokwena told Power FM.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates do battle on Wednesday evening at the Orlando Stadium in a DStv Premiership encounter. It remains to be seen if Mokwena will unleash Sirino on Wednesday, but the likelihood is that he’ll stick with Lucas Ribeiro and Peter Shalulile up front.
