Buthelezi and his brother were returning from visiting their ailing mother in South Africa’s biggest township when they were victims of a car hijacking at a petrol station.

The brothers were rushed to hospital after both were stabbed.

Melusi Buthelezi is in stable condition, but his brother is in critical condition.

“They both suffered stab wounds and were admitted to the hospital. Buthelezi is in a stable condition, even though his brother is said to be critical,” the club said on Sunday.

Buthelezi has recently risen to the top of TS Galaxy’s goalkeeping pecking order, surpassing Vasilije Kolak and Wensten van der Linde.

He started their last three matches, keeping a clean sheet in two of those encounters.

The Rockets asked that the public give the Buthelezi family privacy at this time.

“TS Galaxy FC is appealing to the masses to afford Buthelezi and his family privacy during these trying times,” read a statement from the club.

“The club will not be commenting further on the matter until further notice.”
