Coach Cavin Johnson had often alluded to the media that, he believes in the current crop of players at Chiefs. For that reason he said he just needs more time to coach them, rather than go into the market. Although many may have taken his statements with a pinch of salt, as they sounded diplomatic, they proved be true.

During the last transfer window, Chiefs had been linked with the likes of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch FC. Oswin Appollis of Polokwane City has also made the list as well as Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu. Another player that was linked with the club is attacker Tashreeq Matthews, who ended up signing with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. In the goal keeping department, they have also been heavily linked to Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

Additionally, the likes of Sage Stephens and Siphesihle Mkhize also recently made the Chiefs list. But with what team manager Bobby Motaung had said, none joined in January.  But that stance hasn’t prevented Chiefs from planning ahead. According to iDiski Times, Amakhosi are interested in signing Siphephelo Sithole from CD Tondela in Portugal.

Sithole to turn down Serie A move for Chiefs switch?

“Reliable sources have told iDiski Times that Kaizer Chiefs are interested in two Bafana Bafana players, even though one almost seems out of reach. After a great performance at the recent AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, Chiefs look to have revived their interest in chasing the services of Bafana Bafana midfield strongman Sphephelo ‘Yaya’ Sithole, who featured in all the South African national team matches in this tournament.” Wrote the publication.

Chiefs’ pursuit of Sithole might be too ambitious, however, with his agent confirming Italian Serie A interest in the player. Furthermore, he still has a year left on his contract at Tondela, with Amakhosi not always keen to pay big. Therefore, it seems unlikely that a player would turn down a   move to a top league for a local switch.

Stranger things have happened in the past though and Chiefs will be hoping for the same with regards Sithole.
