Kaizer Chiefs, much like the other sides in South Africa’s ‘Big 3’ is a good place to be if you want to earn decent cash.
It’s easy to envisage a situation where both Khune and Dolly are no longer Chiefs players next season. That illustrates a level of money mismanagement by the club but also reveals an opportunity for them to considerably trim the wage bill, as neither player has been an integral part of the starting XI for the last two campaigns.
In 18 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature. What’s next? A midweek encounter with Golden Arrows on Tuesday 5 March is followed up by a massive Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates on Saturday 9 March.
