Kaizer Chiefs need to get back to basics and even consider changing their entire playing philosophy and tactical approach.

COLUMN: Boring boring Kaizer Chiefs

GOALS CONTINUE TO BE THE PROBLEM FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

In 18 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature. What’s next? A midweek encounter with Golden Arrows and then a massive Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates next weekend.

Time for a shake-up?

Ranga Chivaviro hasn’t been convincing up front, Wandile Duba is still relatively raw and the club has no faith in Jasond Gonzalez. It’s too simplistic to suggest that strikers are the only problem at Chiefs, because the supply of chances isn’t exactly of the highest quality either. Perhaps the club should consider a drastic change in formation. Whatever’s happening now isn’t working. Blooding youngsters like Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi more regularly also represent a considerable risk, but it’s a risk worth taking if it gets fans back on side.
