Former Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela has shed more light on his departure from the Soweto giants.

Komphela confirmed his departure from the Dube Birds on Monday after just seven months at the helm.

Before moving to Swallows, he was a senior coach of Mamelodi Sundowns working alongside Rulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi.

The 56-year-old joined the Dube Birds before the start of the season and at one point, the club were in the top five.

Steve Komphela lifts the lid on Swallows internal issues

Towards the end of the year, the club reportedly faced financial difficulties when they failed to pay its players their salaries, which led to a strike in December last year.

Swallows then suspended 22 players who went on a strike.

The club also missed their two DStv Premiership fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows in December due to the dispute.

Komphela admitted a few weeks ago that he had not been to the Swallows training ground since December.

“Some of the things I saw at Swallows, I have not seen or experienced anywhere. But I have to be cautious because I don’t want my next employer to feel like I have no confidentiality,” Komphela said an interview on Metro FM.

“I felt like I was fighting things that I felt would make us better. It was basic stuff that an efficient team manager should be able to do. In Stellies, we were told that our pre-match meeting and meal were prepared in the gym. So, in the end, it’s me in front of the players, and I told them that this was hogwash.

“There is stuff I cannot speak about, but it’s just not right. I really wish the best for Musa [Nyatama], Ditheko [Mototo], and Thela [Ngobeni]. I am trying to package my responses, but at the same time, I am saying, can we please do better,” Komphela added.
