Orlando Pirates have already offloaded six players, and are not thought to be done yet according to reports.

Pirates are looking to have a squad overhaul and have earmarked their attacking department as one of need.

Pirates have phase one of their clear out

Two weeks Souaibou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori, Thabang Monare and Siyabonga Mpontshane were all released by Pirates. Those being players who have seen their deals at expire at the club, with management deeming them surplus to requirements. There are still players who are under contract who could be loaned out, sold or see their deals terminated at the Houghton-based outfit.

But there are many other players who have been linked with exits from Pirates ahead of next season. These players could include younger squad members who could be seen as future assets to the club. On the other side of the spectrum, it could be experienced players that the club, which they could be trying to cash in on.

Before the Nedbank Cup final it was suggested by a source to Soccer-Laduma that a clear out. All the players who’s deals were up have all been released like what the source suggested.

Saleng, Pule and Kapinga could still leave?

“The people in the office are working hard on that list of players who will be leaving the team. It’s not an easy one but there will be an overhaul at the end of the season. Most of the players whose contracts are coming to an end won’t be renewed as the club is looking at bringing in new blood as well. As far as I am concerned most of those whose contracts were reviewed last season for one season won’t be staying. It will be like a total clear out,” said the source to the publication.

That same report suggested that the likes of Vincent Pule, Monnapule Saleng and Lesedi Kapinga could follow, amongst others. With those three fan favourites still on the chopping block, it seems like very few players are safe at Pirates.
