Kaizer Chiefs are stlill struggling for stability at the base of midfield since selling Njabulo Blom to MLS club St Louis City.

Many pundits and fans believe it’s the major factor behind their goal-scoring struggles. Although there’s not an immediate correlation, it does make sense when one delves deeper. Without a solid platform, attacking midfielders don’t have the freedom to express themselves or a proper structure in which to thrive.

So, who can they sign to address that? Here are three options.

Three holding midfield options for Kaizer Chiefs to finally replace Njabulo Blom

Sibongiseni Mthethwa

Also known as The Ox (not to be mistaken for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain), Stellies midfielder Mthethwa is a no-nonsense ball-winner and destroyer. His skill-set would get the most out of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Mdu Mdantsane ahead of him.

Jayden Adams

Although Stellies operator Adams isn’t a defensive midfielder, he’s got a few interesting defensive traits to his game. For one, he’s got underrated technical ability and can recycle the ball quickly and efficiently. He’s also got great stamina, allowing him to get up and down the pitch. That box-to-box skill-set could be an interesting option for Chiefs.

Andile Jali

It’s no secret that Andile Jali has endured his off-field issues this season, but he’s still a quality operator in the centre of the park. Whether or not ex-Pirates man Jali, who will be 33 next month, fits into the Chiefs rebuild philosophy, remains to be seen.
