SuperSport United have been in hopeless form, but Lyle Lakay somewhat feels cool and calm things will turn around.

The team known as Matsatsanta a Pitori were once the chasing team behind Mamelodi Sundowns at the top. Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport suddenly slipped down to sixth place after just one win in 10 matches. Is the dream to qualify for next season’s CAF Champions League over?

“For us senior players that understand and that have been in that situation before. Everybody knows we haven’t won in about five or six games now. It’s important for us to get ourselves out of it and you know, it takes one game,” the 32-year-old defender Lakay said via SABC Sport.

“It’s crucial this time of the season to pick up points, for sure I believe you know and the players also believe we [SuperSport] can get ourselves out of it especially now, starting with this one. It’s reality, it’s the truth, we haven’t won and I think we just have to give more, we just have to keep on. There’s nothing else we can do, we just have to show character and i takes that one game to turn everything around. I’ve been in this situation before, personally,” Lakay added on SuperSport’s winless misery.

“With Bloemfontein Celtic before you know and with City [Cape Town City] you know we went on a run where we didn’t win, so I know how it feels and I know there’s more players also that have been in this situation before. I think we need to dig a bit deeper, give a bit more, show a bit more character and like I said it takes that one win to to turn everything around,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns star concluded.

Meanwhile, SuperSport are an hour away from hosting Rise and Shine in Tswane. The game is set for 19:30 from the Lucas Moripe Stadium. A win for the men in blue will propel them to fourth position and equal points with Orlando Pirates in third place. On the opposite side in orange, three points for Polokwane will push Kaizer Chiefs out of the DStv Premiership top eight.

SuperSport’s second match of the week will be another home exercise. Nedbank Cup semifinalists Chippa United will arrive in the capital on Saturday at 20:00.
