SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC played to a 1-1 draw in their DStv Premiership encounter on Friday night.

The match was held at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville in Tshwane and was the first match of the season in 2024.

In the 20th minute a move initiated by Gamphani Lungu saw grafter Siphesihle Ndlovu lay on a pass to Shandre Campbell who dispatched a pinpoint pass to veteran Bradley Grobler who finished with a powerful header.

The half-time score was 1-0 to the home side.

Matsatsantsa continued where they left off in the first half as they continued creating scoring opportunities, but the finishing was not up to scratch.

SuperSport United moved into second place in the standings

SuperSport United were punished by their former forward Iqraam Rayners who grabbed the equaliser in the 56th minute.

In the 95th minute, debutant Keegan Allan received a second bookable offence and was sent off.

Grant Margeman won the man of the match award.

SuperSport United moved into second place in the standings, eight points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Gavin Hunt’s men have also played three more matches.

Stellenbosch FC stayed in fourth place, 11 points behind Masandawana having played two more matches.
