Mamelodi Sundowns star Junior Mendieta has left Kabo Yellow, three years after arriving in South Africa.

MAMELODI SUNDOWNS ATTACKER JUNIOR MENDIETA JOINS

The 31-year-old Argentian attacker first arrived at Stellenbosch FC in 2021. Mendieta soon moved to Sundowns last season for around R12 million. With the new season starting next week, Mendieta has joined Greek club Volos FC for about R10 million, according to iDiskiTimes’ David Kappel.

“Greek Super League side Volos FC have announced the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns winger Junior Mendieta,” the Kappel revealed.

“The club forked out around R10-million to secure his services and despite not being a regular, his first season could be considered a success with the African Football League and league title to his name, the first silverware of his career,” the report added on the former Kabo Yellow attacking midfielder.

WYDAD CASABLANCA CONTACT RULANI MOKWENA

Staying with Sundowns, the club’s former coach Rulani Mokwena might be moving on rather soon.  New reports say Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca have made contact.

It is safe to say the shock has finally subsided. Mokwena might have to start moving on with his career. According to FARPost, the 37-year-old coach has been contacted by Wydad, less than 24 hours after his dramatic exit from Sundowns.

“Wydad Casablanca have reportedly made contact with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, gauging his interest in taking over the Moroccan club’s vacant coaching position. The approach comes after Mokwena’s shock departure from Sundowns was confirmed by the club on Wednesday,” Mthokozisi Dube reported.

“Wydad finished the season under an interim coach, having dismissed their head coach, Adel Ramzi. The decision was made after a disappointing run in the CAF Champions League campaign in December. While the contact between Wydad and Mokwena is described as exploratory, both parties are reportedly open to further discussions. The Moroccan club is said to be impressed with Mokwena’s track record. They also believes he possesses the qualities needed to elevate the team’s performance,” Dube concluded.

Meanwhile, Sundowns have appointed Manqoba Mngqithi on a caretaker role.

In the meantime, the DStv Premiership champions are traveling to Europe for pre-season. The African Football League holders will spend two weeks in Austria before returning to Mzansi before the first week of August.
