SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed that former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gift Motupa was training with Matsatsantsa.

The 29-year-old officially parted ways with Masandawana in January after being underutilized for years.

Motupa worked with Hunt at now-defunct Bidvest Wits before moving to Sundowns in 2020.

“Gift is training with us but there is no money, no budget [to sign him]. He was overweight and had to lose some kilos. What happens is that they don’t play for two years, out of condition and out on the side,” Hunt was quoted as saying by Soccer Laduma.

“He has been with us for about two weeks now, running hard. We are not going to do anything until the end of the season. We can’t. Then we will readdress if there is an opportunity next season,” he added.

Hunt keen to sign ex-Sundowns midfielder Gift Motupa BUT….

The attacking midfielder has found it hard to get game time in the four years he has been at Downs.

Motupa only played twice this season, featuring only 25 minutes this campaign.

“Thank you for your service to the club and we wish you all the best! ” Downs said on their X account.

Gavin Hunt explains why Pitso was successful at Sundowns

Motupa made a name for himself at Baroka before joining Orlando Pirates in 2015.

Three years later, he joined Wits where he played the best football of his career before Sundowns came knocking.

It remains to be seen if he and Hunt can reunite next season.
