SOWETO: A potentially fruitful alliance between Chiefs and Pirates

Sundowns beat Richards Bay to extend unbeaten run

The Brazilians are now unbeaten in 29 PSL matches after their hard-fought 1-0 win at Richards Bay. Junior Mendieta scored the only goal of the game. Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil started for Sundowns in the knowledge that his next booking would rule him out of a match through suspension since he’s already tallied up three yellow cards in the PSL this term. Rhulani Mokwena’s team next go to Polokwane City on 30 August, before MTN8 semi-final action against Kaizer Chiefs on 2 September. A league match away to Pirates follows on September 19th.

Downs three games away from breaking an old Kaizer Chiefs record

Sundowns are just a trio of unbeaten top-flight matches away from another slice of history. They’re currently unbeaten in 29 PSL matches after their 1-0 win away to Richards Bay on Wednesday. If the Brazilians can avoid defeat in upcoming DStv Premiership clashes against Polokwane City, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch, they’ll beat that Kaizer Chiefs record set all the way back in 2005.
