No surprise perhaps to learn that the list contains three players from Mamelodi Sundowns who have been far and away the most dominant side in South Africa for several seasons now.

Masandawana are well on track to win a fifth consecutive league title which will be their 12th since the PSL era kicked off back in the 1996/97 season.

The Tshwane-based side’s red-hot Namibian striker Peter Shalulile leads the way with a reported market value of €1.5 million (R2.63 million) at Wednesday’s exchange rate of €1/R17.59.

Shalulile is this season’s leading goalscorer with 13 goals after 19 matches. He finds himself four goals clear of his nearest challenger, Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo.

Second place in the list is held by another Mamelodi Sundowns star, left-winger Themba Zwane, with a €1.4 million (R2.46 million) value.

Rounding off the ‘podium’ is the only Kaizer Chiefs player in the list, veteran forward Khama Billiat, with a price tag of €1.3 million (R2.29 million).

Fourth place – rounded up to the same value as Billiat – may surprise many.

It’s been a struggle of late for Orlando Pirates’ defender Thulani Hltatshwayo, but he still finds himself among the most value at €1.3 million (R2.29 million).

Last but not least in the Top 5 list is another Mamelodi Sundowns player, right-back Thapelo Morena, whose market value has risen in recent times to a current day €1.2 million (R2.1 million).
