AmaZulu FC will not be signing former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala for the upcoming 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

However, the KwaZulu-Natal side will be keeping Tsepo Masilela.

Both former Glamour Boys are now veterans at 36 years of age and according to Usuthu president Sandile Zungu, “Shabba” is not part of coach Benni McCarthy’s plans for the upcoming season.

Tshabalala made just three appearances while Masilela played 11 times for AmaZulu last season.

“Masilela is definitely with the team, but Shabba [Tshabalala] doesn’t fit into the coach’s plans, so he’s been let go,” Zungu told Kickoff.

To date AmaZulu have revealed seven new signings for the season ahead, namely: Tercious Malepe, Mxolisi Kunene, Mattar Ceesay, Philani Zulu and Keegan Buchanan, while Tshepang Moremi and Lindani Shange have been promoted to the first team squad.

AmaZulu will be looking to go one better than their runner-up finish in last season’s DStv Premiership, but will have their work cut out for them with a rejuvenated Kaizer Chiefs outfit looking to once again contend for the title, while defend champions Mamelodi Sundowns will be tough to topple from their perch atop the hierarchy.

AmaZulu will next be in action in the MTN8 quarter-finals when they host Cape Town City on Sunday, 15 August at 18:00.

Their first DStv Premiership assignment is a mouth-watering one away to Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday, 20 August at 17:00.
