Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena could be called in to assist Hugo Broos at next year’s African Cup of Nations.

According to various reports, Bafana Bafana could be without their assistant coach Helman Mkhalele as he lacks the required badges to sit on the bench during Afcon.

Hugo Broos could be without Mkhalele on the bench

The former Bafana midfielder only has a SAFA Level 1 coaching badge.

CAF introduced the rule at the beginning of last season that head coaches who will sit on the bench in the CAF inter-club competitions must possess CAF A or CAF Pro Licences to be on the bench, while assistants need at least a CAF B Licence, while the only badges from outside the African continent that are accepted are Pro Licences from UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF.

If Mkhalele is not allowed on the bench, Broos might bring in Mokwena.

Bafana’s Afcon squad should have atleast 10 Sundowns players so brining in Mokwena makes a lot of sense.
