Kaizer Chiefs fans are desperate for change and silverware. Is Benni McCarthy the man to deliver those things, and is this a realistic dream?

On Football SA’s Facebook account, fans are pleading in the comments section for Benni to come to Naturena. Whether or not he heeds those cries is another matter entirely. We’ve discussed five of the great man’s options as he stands at a crossroads in his career. Some are serious, some not so much.

Manchester United are drifting towards obscurit

In the turbulent post-Fergie years at Old Trafford, Manchester United have struggled to find a head coach they can trust to make them a dominant force in England again. The Red Devils’ last league triumph was in 2013. Since then, their noise neighbours Manchester City have scooped six crowns, including each of the last three. Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester have climbed to the top of the tree in that period too, but United’s EPL title drought now stands at 11 years. If head coach Erik ten Hag leaves the club, Benni is expected to follow suit.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO POUNCE?

The Glamour Boys have lost plenty of their shine in recent years. No trophies since 2015, seemingly no real direction and a support base that gets more disgruntled by the day. Chiefs’ commercial value will remain intact for as long as we are all alive, but will their credibility as a footballing institution? It’s the longest of long shots at the moment but crazier things have happened in football. All we know is that Kaizer Chiefs Football Club needs a hero, a miracle, or perhaps a bit of both.

ALL THE USUAL SUSPECTS QUALIFY, BUT WHEN IS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTER-FINAL DRAW?

Defending champions Man City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Borussia Dortmund complete the QF lineup. The draw takes place on Friday 15 March from Nyon, Switzerland starting at 13:00 RSA time. Benni’s former club Porto, with whom he won the Champions League in 2004, were eliminated by Arsenal on penalties on Tuesday night.
