Kaizer Chiefs target Elias Mokwana is torn between Amakhosi and Orlando Pirates. However, his Bafana Bafana prospects could be a determining factor when deciding where to move.

KAIZER CHIEFS TARGET MOKWANA HAS A SOFT SPOT FOR PIRATES

24-year-old Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana has shone this term with four goals and three assists in 15 league appearances. He’s in the latest Bafana squad for friendlies against Algeria and Andorra. Mokwana arrived at Babina Noko from Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Platinum City Rovers in 2022. He was also on the Afcon standby list. According to The Citizen, Mokwana has always admired Chiefs but has admitted to having a soft spot for Sowetor rivals Pirates. Will that be a problem?

According to the source, the Glamour Boys are favourites if the Glamour Boys table a satisfactory offer to the player. Mokwana would prefer a switch to Naturena as that might guarantee him more playing time in the first team compared to Pirates where the competition for places is arguably fiercer. A move to Chiefs would, in theory at least, make his long-term Bafana prospects stronger.

MBATHA HAS BEEN A REVELATION FOR ORLANDO PIRATES

According to The Citizen, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro and his technical staff are delighted with the progress of loan signing Thalente Mbatha. Indeed, they’re already advancing in negotiations to make his move permanent. The 24-year-old central midfielder joined the club in January on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy and has quickly become a key player in the starting XI. He’s made five league appearances and turned out twice in the Nedbank Cup, providing an assist in each competition.

Nedbank Cup quarter-final draw

Defending Nedbank Cup champions Pirates travel to AmaZulu in the quarter-finals. Carling Knockout winners Stellenbosch face Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport, while relative minnows TS Galaxy and Chippa will battle for a place in the final four. AmaTuks, the only side left in the competition not plying their trade in South Africa’s top tier, face the daunting prospect of a clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.
