Golden Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi has warned that the PSL title contest is not a two horse race.

Arrows are four points behind Amazulu in second place with Mamelodi Sundowns leading the race a further point ahead of Usuthu.

Mamelodi Sundowns may be hanging on to a slender lead, but their two games in hand on the Durban clubs gives them the inside lane.

Golden Arrows running their own race

There are all sorts of history-making achievements still on the table for Abafana Bes’thende and they are determined to run their best race.

Ncikazi wouldn’t rule out catching the top two and possibly snatching a Champions League spot or even the title.

“We are still on course. We are running our [own] race. All the noise happening around other teams, we don’t concentrate on that, we concentrate on our team and trying to finish in the highest position the club has ever achieved,” Ncikazi told the media.

“If it happens that it takes us to Africa, let it be. If it takes us to the top of the log, why not? There is still more football to be played [before the season ends].

“I think the assumptions and maths taking place is too early. I am just proud that the team went away for three games and never lost a match. We played two draws and one win.

Breaking new ground

“It’s a positive run for our team, and it’s never happened before. The group of players we have this season are prepared to fight for the badge, work as a team and there are no complaints.”

Golden Arrows meet Amazulu in arguably the biggest KZN derby in recent memory on Saturday.

Arrows stand to insert themselves into the title race but to do so they will need to end Amazulu’s long unbeaten run.

Both clubs have added much needed spice to this season’s PSL.
