The next Premier Soccer League (PSL) transfer window will begin soon after the ongoing season, the league confirmed on Friday.

The delayed conclusion fo the 2019/20 season has meant that the usual July-August transfer period has been postponed until the end of the campaign.

Revised PSL transfer window

Speaking at a media briefing, PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza revealed that teams will be able to register new signings from 22 September until 17 October.

Live football returns on Saturday in South Africa, with the remainder of the season played inside a biosecure bubble in Gauteng.

Khoza said he was uncertain whether the league will be able to continue operating under the same conditions in the new season.

“The bubble is an expensive thing to have, that’s why we said that the application of the BSE is going to assist us as to whether it will be a template for the future or not,” said Khoza.

“For now, we can’t say anything because we don’t know what the government is figuring out in terms of the [lockdown] levels or the sensitivity and severity of the pandemic.

“We will wait and see at that particular time and come up with a strategy to mitigate whatever has been presented to us, for us to go forward and continue with the games.”

New season start date

Khoza also confirmed that the January window would also be pushed back, due to the delayed start of the upcoming season.

The new start dates for the mid-season transfer window mean teams will be able to add new signings from 1 February to 1 March 2021.

Several clubs have already made signings ahead of the upcoming season, with the newly-acquired players unable to feature in the ongoing campaign.

The 2020/21 PSL season will kick off on Thursday 8 October.
