PSL rivals to offer long-serving Kaizer Chiefs veteran a way out! 

A Kaizer Chiefs veteran centre back is thought to be on his way out of Naturena at the end of the season, with admirers already lining up for him.

Eric Mathoho’s contract at Chiefs is set to run out at the end of the current season and it is thought that, it will be his last in the famous gold and black.

Mathoho joined Chiefs from the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic in a blockbuster transfer deal, that occurred more than a decade ago now. Amakhosi had beaten rivals Mamelodi Sundowns after a much publicised transfer battle for the Venda-born centre back. It did not take long for him to prove his qualities at the club, becoming a mainstay of it over several years.

Mathoho was also part of a successful era at the club, winning league titles and various local trophies along his journey. In most recent years, however, he has also been part of Chiefs’ extensive trophy draught, which prompted the club to make a few clean sweeping changes at the end of the previous season. Those changes saw a new coaching and management group led by Arthur Zwane, who then also initiated a large player exodus that saw many club veterans and players deemed surplus to requirements.

One of the players who was thought to have been on that list but ended up surviving is Mathoho, but he has hardly been involved in the Chiefs squad all season. With his contract already on a countdown, Soccer-Laduma reports that TS Galaxy are thinking of rescuing the player’s situation. 

Mathoho to leave Chiefs for Galaxy?

“Indications from sources are that TS Galaxy are considering a move for the former Bafana Bafana International (Mathoho), who is said to be on the verge of parting ways with Amakhosi when his contract expires at the end of June. The Siya Crew has been informed that the Rockets are in the market for a centre back with Given Msimango expected to go the other way (Chiefs) ” the publication wrote.

On paper it would seem like a logical deal for both Galaxy and Mathoho, who could use the funds received from Chiefs transfer of Msimango to help fund the salary of the lanky star.
