Pitso Mosimane does not understand why Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates did not make the African Football League.

As confirmed before Mamelodi Sundowns became the champions of the AFL, CAF decided to make the first edition exclusive to Africa’s eight highest-ranked teams by region.

However Mosimane did not seem to understand the rankings were based on regions.

“How do you come to be invited, I don’t know. Is it points-based on CAF? And I just think there are other clubs like Raja Casablanca, I’m just making an example, there are a lot of clubs who have more points,” Mosimane said via iDiskiTimes.

“I mean [Orlando] Pirates have been there all the time, same as Kaizer Chiefs who have just been in the Champions League final, but I don’t know how Simba has more points?

“But I don’t want to talk about that tournament. I like the tournament because it’s rich, it’s got a lot of money. But I don’t know, you must tell me if it is a threat [to the CAFCL] or not. Financially, yes probably.

“That’s one thing but the other one says it’s just a tournament where everybody picks the teams that he likes or she likes. But Raja is a big team that fills the stadium, I’m just using them as an example, or Zamalek, a big club, unless you don’t know the CAF Champions League. So if you put Simba, what about Yanga?” Mosimane added.

“That’s another story also. But anyway, I don’t want to go more into that. But good for money, but it’s just a tournament,” he concluded.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Mosimane’s future is still yet to be decided.

The Kagiso-born coach confirmed he has received offers from the continent, Asia and Europe, but he remains focused on spending Christmas with his family.
