Pirates vs Chiefs: Yusuf Maart stunner settles Soweto derby

Yusuf Maart scored the only goal of the only goal of the game as Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Yusuf Maart scored the only goal of the only goal of the game as Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The result saw Chiefs temporarily move up to third on the DStv Premiership log with 21 points from the 13 league games played so far.

Pirates started the game with five attacking players while Chiefs had just four with no out-and-out striker.

The Buccaneers created a number of chances in the first half but they couldn’t hurt Chiefs who looked shaky at the back.

Perhaps the positive thing was that Amakhosi were able to contain Monnapule Saleng with Njabulo Blom doing the dirty work.

Ashley du Preez had the better chance towards the end of the first half but he failed to convert with only Siyabonga Mpontshane to beat.

Pirates had a poor second half as they couldn’t threaten Chiefs who came to life after the 60th minute.

Maart then did the unthinkable as he scored an outrageous goal from his own half after realising that Mpontshane was way off line in the 74th minute.

And that’s how the match ended with Chiefs claiming the bragging rights and maximum points on the day.
