Pirates coach worried about team’s form ahead of Soweto derby

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is concerned about the team’s form ahead of the Soweto Derby this coming weekend.

The Buccaneers play Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Before the derby, Pirates host Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium hoping to end their five game winless streak.

This past weekend, Jose Riveiro’s men were dumped out of the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals by Richards Bay.

Having been knocked out of the CAF Champions League and CKO, Pirates only have the Nedbank Cup and the league to play for.

“It is very important, firstly because we are playing for three points,” said Riveiro said ahead of Tuesday’s game.

“We need points. We can play one bad game, we need to play bad and win it – not being fancy like we are right now with 90 percent possession, putting the opponents inside the goal but not scoring,” he was quoted on iDiski Times.

“I value right now to play a bad game and get the win and three points, get a boost and go to the Derby as soon as possible.

“But we don’t want to do it that way. We have our own way of doing things, we try to win because that is important. It is important for the confidence of the players, it is important to our fans as well to be calm and happy with us, so it goes without saying the next game is important for us,” said the Pirates coach.

The Buccaneers are 13th on the log and need a win to jump into the top 10.
