Mamelodi Sundowns have been no strangers to operating in the South American transfer market, a move that will continue to grow their reputation in the region.

This time however, they benefited from the South American scouting network of another DStv Premiership outfit for the talents of Junior Mendieta.

Mamelodi Sundowns are thought to have moved swiftly and purposefully as they are known to, with the Brazilians going straight to Stellenbosch to gauge the possibility of a deal for their key man Mendieta. This came after news that they were set to part ways with now former midfielder Haashim Domingo.  Rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were also rumoured to be interested in Mendieta, but it is Sundowns who have won his signature.

It is thought that all of Sundowns, Chiefs and Pirates were informed that Mendieta’s release clause at Stellenbosch is R10 million, a price that did not seem to faze the Brazilians, as is now evident since he has already put pen to paper with them. Mendieta, who scored 10 goals and laid down nine assists last season had been back in Argentina on holiday, but upon his arrival back in the country over the weekend, the deal is now expected to be formally announced imminently. 

Mendieta in Mamelodi for Sundowns announcement shoot?

Now in a picture from Unplayable Mendieta is seen in a location that they believe is Mamelodi, where it is thought an announcement video was being shot by Sundowns. If that is the case, then it is clear to see how highly the club view the capture of the playmaker. (Soma online) Already they have wrapped up and announced the signing of Marumo Gallants attacker Lesiba Nku, in what was just a normal social media post.

Besides Mendieta and Nku, Sundowns are thought to not be done yet in the market. It is believed that Brazilian striker Lucas Riberio Costa, while also believed to have made a bid for Thapelo Maseko of rivals SuperSport United
