Shalulile netted his first goal of the afternoon in the 24th minute with a bullet header from a Lyle Lakay corner.

That goal was Shalulile’s 19th of the 2021/22 season and he added to his tally just three minutes later with a easy tap-in to equal Siyabonga Nomvethe’s 10-year-old record of 20 goals.

Shalulile then completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute.

He was substituted in the 78th minute as Mamelodi Sundowns walloped Golden Arrows 6-0 to take another step towards a fifth consecutive PSL title.

Shalulile became the first player in PSL history to score back-to-back league hat-tricks. He netted three times against Swallows last Wednesday.

With Nomvethe’s 20-goal tally now surpassed, Peter Shalulile will be targeting Collins Mbesuma’s all-time record of 25 league goals in a single season.

Mbesuma netted his 25 goals while on the books of Kaizer Chiefs during the 2004/05 season when he helped the Soweto giants win a second successive league title.

With five matches to go, ‘all’ Shalulile needs to score four or more goals to match or better Mbesuma’s record which has stood for 17 long years.

For the record, Pollen Ndlanya scored 21 goals in the 1998/99 season for Kaizer Chiefs and Wilfred Mugeyi scored 22 for Bush Bucks in the very first 1996/97 PSL-era season, but both of those efforts came when there were 18 teams – and 34 matches – in the league.
