Out-of-favour Kaizer Chiefs defender shrugs off criticism

Kaizer Chiefs defender Sifiso Hlanti has had a shocking season so far which led him to lose his place in the team to Edmilson Dove.

Kaizer Chiefs left back Sifiso Hlanti has hit back at critics regarding his form.

The 33-year-old has faced backlash following his defensive display against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second-leg of the MTN8 semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hlanti though, says the focus should not be on him but on the team as they prepare for the Carling Knockout Cup.

The defender has lsot his place to Edmilson Dove.

“I didn’t start bad because this is a team sport. It’s not a case of Hlanti [not performing]. I contributed well even though I can still improve,” the Kaizer Chiefs defender was quoted on Sowetanlive.

“When it comes to losing my place in the starting XI, I’d say we share the workload. We are all here to work and no one owns a position. Whoever plays, we give him support,we need to stick together because we are all in the same circle,” Hlanti said.

Kaizer Chiefs take on AmaZulu in the Carling KO and Hlanti promised fans that the Soweto giants will dig deep to try to win the competution having lost out on the MTN8.

“This is another opportunity for us to win a cup but we know very well that it’s not going to be an easy one because all the teams will be well-prepared. We are going to dig deeper,” he said.

“The boys are showing hunger, desire and commitment. Tactically and mentally we are well-prepared for AmaZulu. At this point in time we don’t look back… all is well and the atmosphere is good.”

Kaizer Chiefs host AmaZulu on Saturday in the round of 16 of the Carling KO.
