There is an old saying that says, ‘never count your chickens before they hatch’ and Kaizer Chiefs have enforced it!

In what seemed like a three-horse race for the Chiefs coaching job, Alexandre Santos believed he had won!

Chiefs fans as well as the South African football fraternity are waiting with bated breathe for the new coach announcement. There have been a plethora of candidates named as favourites during this process. Names such as Vanderlei Luxembergo, Pitso Mosimane, Raul Caneda, Jose Peseiro, Rui Vitoria. Then the latest candidates were believed to beSantosand surprisingly TS Galaxy’s Sead Ramovic.

Santos was the favourite

In the last week, however, it all seemed like it would become a straight shootout between three parties. Mosimane, Santos and Nasreddine Nabi. Nabi, the favourite candidate from last season, emerged out of nowhere this time around. This after his negotiations with the club hit a snag in the previous campaign. Having performed so well with AS FAR this season, Chiefs were left with no choice but to go back to pursuing his services.

That pursuit of Nabi by Chiefs, however, seems to have been at the expense of Santos as per Soccer-Laduma.

Chiefs snubbed him!

“They were in advanced talks with coach Nabi because they didn’t want what happened last year to happen when they ended up with Molefi Ntseki while Nabi was the frst choice. So, despite looking at Pitso and Santos they wanted to be sure that they have a coach by next week and Nabi was readily available. Now, both coach Pitso and Santos are also available. And mind you, coach Santos didn’t renew his contract in Angola because he had the belief that he could be Kaizer Chiefs’ next coach. Now, where does that put him?” Said the source.

On Monday this publication reported that Santos confirmed talks with Chiefs had been unfruitful. Has he paved the way for Nabi?
