Orlando Pirates legend Andries Sebola says the Buccaneers should sign Stellenbosch star Iqraam Rayners.

The Sea Robbers managed to beat Stellies to second place in the DStv Premiership thus qualifying for the CAF Champions League. Despite having an average campaign, Pirates still have an opportunity to end the season on a high this coming weekend. The Buccaneers play Mamelodi Sundowns in the final of the Nedbank Cup at the Mbombela Stadium.

Orlando Pirates legend Sebola has urged his former club to strengthen their attack by signing Stellenbosch star player. Rayners has scored 15 league goals this campaign and just missed out on the DStv Premiership golden boot.

“I still believe that Pirates need to go outside the county because most of the quality players are at Sundowns. So, looking at Rayners, if they can convince Stellies to bring him on board, it will be good.”

“Even though we know some coastal players, when they come to Gauteng, they struggle. He came to SuperSport United and he didn’t do well, then he went back to Stellenbosch and did well.

“So the striking force is where Orlando Pirates needs to reinforce, and also at the back, Sebola told FARPost.

The former Orlando Pirates striker said the team can also look beyond the Stellenbosch star and beef up the midfield.

“In the midfield, they have Miguel Timm and Thabang Monare, Thalente Mbatha and Patrick Maswanganyi, but I still feel they need one player in the midfield.”

Bucs still have a lot of work to do next season

The Buccaneers have struggled for goals this season with the likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Kermit Erasmus and Evidence Makgopa failing in front. Tshegotso Mabasa has been the team’s saving grace with 10 goals from 13 games since returning on loan from Moroka Swallows. Perhaps signing Rayners from Stellenbosch might give Orlando Pirates a boost they need upfront to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns next season.
