Orlando Pirates may have recently wrapped up their second signing ahead of the new season, but are thought to be hungry for more.

Having roped in a goalkeeper and centre back in Melusi Buthelezi from TS Galaxy and All Stars Midfielder Siphelo Baloni, defence seems to be Pirates’ next target.

Already Pirates have been linked with several defenders including the liked of Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu for their left back ranks, while they have also been linked with a whole host of centre backs. That would make sense, seeing as though the club heavily relied on the likes Nkosinathi Sibisi and Tapelo Xoki to man the heart of their defence last season.

With the highly rated fan favourite Olisa Ndah only playing 17 games all season, it was the two new signings who carried the Buccaneers ship, with the likes of captain Innocent Maela and Sandile Mthethwa also contributing to the cause at centre half, when required by Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro

For that reason, their centre back drive has taken them to a former Kaizer Chiefs trials in Olivier Toure. Toure was also linked with a move to Pirates this time last year but nothing materialised. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, after starring for Marumo Gallants in the DStv Premiership as well as confederation Cup, the Buccaneers have revived their interest in him, but could face a huge stumbling block.

“Insiders have revealed that the Buccaneers have revived their interest in the centre-back (Toure) as coach Jose Riveiro is looking at making reinforcements for the team to be able to compete both in the league and the Champions League next season. However, Gallants might need to re-visit their asking price for the towering Ivorian, as the Siya crew understands that the club was eyeing in the region of R10 million for his services when they were still in the topflight, this according to sources in the know.”. Wrote the publication.

Now that Gallants are relegated, it is unlikely that they will demand anything near that amount for Toure, which could then see Pirates swoop in for the Ivorian.
