Orlando Pirates have reportedly opted against extending the contract of attacker Kermit Erasmus.

Erasmus joined the Buccaneers in a blockbuster move from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022.

The 33 year old attacker showed glimpses of his undeniable class for the Buccaneers since joining the club.

However, Erasmus’ time in Mayfair has been plagued by injuries and it’s for that reason that the club are reluctant to extend his contract.

Injury prone Erasmus set for Orlando Pirates exit?

“In January, the club wanted to open talks with Kermit over a new one-year contract,” an insider told Citizen regarding the Orlando Pirates striker.

“But he got injured and that threw a spanner in the works so to speak. Now the general feeling is that Kermit is injury prone and the club doesn’t want to renew his contract, only for him to get injured and spend time in the medical room.

“So, they have decided that it’s not worth the risk and they have decided to let him go.”

In other news, Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango is on the wanted list of a rival DStv Premiership club.

Now plying his trade for Swallows FC, the Malawian attacker has been linked with a move to Sekhukhune United!

Mhango has featured for the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu in the past.

The former Orlando Pirates star has scored 66 club goals since coming to South Africa in 2013.

Sekhukhune United eyeing former Wits and Bucs star

“Mhango is one of the guys who has been identified as someone who could come and help the team,” an insider told Citizen regarding the former Pirates and Wits star.

“He is a very talented striker and someone who has a lot of experience playing in the DStv Premiership. If you look at him now, you can see that there is still a lot of hunger in him.

“It’s not like the team doesn’t have players who can do the job, it is just that there needs to be competition. This is because they feel like some players are relaxed because there is also no completion.

“If you look at the squad, it’s a big squad, close to 40 players. But also some people are not competing. With so much investment in the team, there is therefore a need to strengthen it.” a source added regarding the former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates star.
