Orlando Pirates superstar Monnapule Saleng will submit a transfer request at the end of the season as he seeks more regular first-team football and a place in the Bafana squad.
Is Saleng on the way out of Orlando Pirates?
Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng is no longer a first choice with the Buccaneers despite a scintillating 2022-23 campaign. Last season he was named PSL Players’ of the Season for his outstanding exploits in the final third. Saleng bagged 15 goals and 11 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. However, 2023-24 has seen him lose his place in the Pirates and Bafana Bafana setups. He did make a goal-scoring cameo in Pirates’ thrilling 3-2 win against Chiefs but he’s failed to nail down a regular berth on the right-hand side. According to The Citizen, the 26-year-old has submitted a transfer request.
“I think the failed moves at the end of last season affected Monnapule somehow. He was never the same player after that,” said the source.
“But he is over that right now and you can see whenever he comes in that he is more focused right now. But it looks like the coach wants to turn him into an impact player and he is not happy with that hence he will ask the club to let him go and play somewhere else,” added the source.

27-year-old striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been flying for the Buccaneers after a loan spell at Swallows. He’s got eight goals in 10 appearances across all competitions since his return across Soweto. Overall in the league, he’s got 11 goals and is in the thick of the Golden Boot race alongside Lucas Ribeiro Costa (11 goals) and Khanyisa Mayo (10). Naturally, this form has attracted some admirers. Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassisa has revealed interest in his client, including a failed move to Sundowns in January. Cassica says Sundowns face stiff competition from Romanian giants FCSB.
