After putting in a Man Of The Match performance, Thembinkosi Lorch refused to blame his Orlando Pirates teammates for their loss

Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch refused to blame his teammates for his side’s heartbreaking loss against Richards Bay FC.

The Buccaneers unfortunately went down on Saturday afternoon against Richards Bay FC in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinals.

Despite both sides creating a number of chances at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, neither side managed to break the deadlock during regular time.

The match then proceeded to extra-time before penalties were to decide the winner. Unfortunately for Jose Riveiro’s side, the lottery of the penalty shootout was against them with Richards Bay picking up a 5-4 victory.

Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch has opened up on his side’s loss, after being named as the Man Of The Match.

Orlando Pirates star refuses to blame teammates

“We always create chances, and I don’t blame anyone for not scoring. The keeper saved the balls. But we are very disappointed we didn’t go through.” the Orlando Pirates star said as quoted by FarPost.

“It’s not easy, you can see we play Wednesday and weekend. So, it’s not easy. We just need to recover well so that we can focus on another game.”

“The league is the most important competition, it goes without saying,” Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro said as quoted by TimesLive.

“Thirty games, 15 away and home against everyone in every circumstance, hot and raining. So, it’s the most important competition and we really want to find our rhythm there.

“Now we have played our fourth competition in two months and a half. We are trying to keep the level in all competitions we play. It is difficult mentally to face these kinds of competitions in a very short space of time.”
