Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro insists that the 1-1 draw with Royal AM on Wednesday was a positive result for the club.

Riveiro fielded a number of fringe players for the fixture with one eye on the all-important Nedbank Cup semi-final this weekend.

Orlando Pirates take positives and move on

Relebohile Ratomo, Makhehleni Makhaula, Phillip Ndlondlo, Bandile Shandu, Fortune Makaringe and Kermit Erasmus all got a chance to show what they could do.

Pirates missed out on the chance to take Kaizer Chiefs out of the race for second but still have the edge over both SuperSport United and Amakhosi who would need a flood of goals and a catastrophic finish for the Sea Robbers to snatch the place.

“Yeah, like I said its positive. The beginning of the game was slow than we expected because even if you introduce new players fresh and good,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the match.

“They are not used to play together so it takes a bit of time to start to play well or the way we want but I think little by little we managed to dominate and I’m happy because many players today came to the party and we know that we can use them until the end of the season.”

Not happy with the result

While the coach felt the effort on the day was positive, the Orlando Pirates boss wasn’t happy to drop points.

“Not happy with the result. I think we produce much more today to actually have a comfortable result. At halftime, I think we were a bit unlucky and when the result is that tight these things can happen at the end of the game,” Riveiro said.

“It’s not the first time, unfortunately for us we dropped points in the last actions of the game. But still, it’s a difficult week for us I try to take the positive things.

“We get one more point, its one more point advantage that we have to protect, defend and capitalise in the end of season.”
