Orlando Pirates provide fresh squad update

There’s both good and bad news on the injury front for Orlando Pirates ahead of today’s clash against Sekhukhune United.

Orlando Pirates return to the green grass this evening when they travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Sekhukhune United.

The Buccaneers have enjoyed an incredible start to 2024, picking up three wins from four matches including a stunning Soweto derby triumph over rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

Next up for Jose Riveiro’s side is a stern test in the form of Sekhukhune United. United themselves are on an impressive league winning streak, picking up four straight victories!

Striker Evidence Makgopa remains out injury however the good news is that he’s on the mend and nearing a return to to full fitness.

Furthermore Makhehlene Makhaula has returned to training after collapsing during the club’s previous Nedbank Cup clash.

Nkosinathi Sibisi, Tapelo Xoki, Thabang Monare and Patrick Maswanganyi have all returned from the national team in good health.

Action at the Peter Mokaba Stadium gets underway at 17:45. The match will be televised live on SuperSport PSL.

Unfortunately for many Sekhukhune and Orlando Pirates fans, today’s match won’t be televised live on SABC.

In other news, Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango is on the wanted list of a rival DStv Premiership club.

Now at troubled side Swallows FC, the Malawian attacker has been linked with a move to Sekhukhune United!

Mhango has featured for the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu in the past.

The former Orlando Pirates star has scored 66 club goals since coming to South Africa in 2013.

“Mhango is one of the guys who has been identified as someone who could come and help the team,” an insider told Citizen regarding the former Orlando Pirates and Wits star.

“He is a very talented striker and someone who has a lot of experience playing in the DStv Premiership. If you look at him now, you can see that there is still a lot of hunger in him.

“It’s not like the team doesn’t have players who can do the job, it is just that there also needs to be competition. This is because they feel like some players are relaxed because there is also no completion.

“If you look at the squad, it’s a big squad, close to 40 players. But also some people are not competing. With so much investment in the team, there is therefore a need to strengthen it.” a source added regarding the former Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates star.
