According to McCarthy, winning the league supersedes lifting both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies for Pirates.

The former Bucs marksman believes the Soweto giants should be looking to push and challenge Sundowns in the league.

BENNI MCCARTHY CRITICAL OF ORLANDO PIRATES SEASON

“It’s hard to say if it was a good season for Pirates because you play all year to win the league.” said McCarthy as per KickOff.

“Winning the MTN8 Cup is great, and winning the Nedbank Cup is also great but I think the big one that you chase is the league.

“In there, they’ve had a great season but by their standards, that’s not good enough. You’re supposed to be pushing Sundowns all the way to the wire. It should be a far closer contest than what it is.”
