ORLANDO PIRATES BEAT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS TO WIN THE MTN8

Following Saturday night’s event at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, the Buccaneers lifted the 2023 MTN8 title after a 3-1 win on penalties over Sundowns, thanks to Sipho Chaine’s heroics on spotkicks, after the game ended goalless inside 90 minutes.

The result also spelt a third trophy accolade for the club’s Spanish tactician Riveiro, and just 16 months since he joined the club in June 2022.

Speaking to SuperSport TV after last Saturday’s success, Riveiro said the technical team’s job is to inpsire his players.

“We are here to try to inspire them, to give them hope, today they could see that if you fight, if you are together until the end you know even though we went through difficult moments in the game,” he said.

“Because Sundowns are good. It’s a good team but we managed to stay together to really fight and get the results. So I’m extremely proud to be an Orlando Pirates coach and yeah, what else?” Riviero added.
