Forgotten Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus looks set to leave the club at the end of the season as game time appears hard to come by.

Erasmus has fallen down the pecking order at Pirates with Jose Riveiro preferring big-frame strikers to lead his team’s attack.

At the start of the season, Pirates had Zakhele Lepasa leading their frontline with Erasmus often coming off the bench in certain matches.

However, when Evidence Makgopa hit form, both Lepasa and Erasmus were relegated to the bench and sometimes out in the stands.

Makgopa’s form dipped, and that coincided with the return from loan of Tshegofatso Mabasa who was with Moroka Swallows for half-a-season.

And with Mabasa’s current form, chances of Erasmus featuring regularly for Pirates are very slim, and he could be shipped out.

Now, according to Soccer Laduma, Cape Town City could be Erasmus’ next destination despite being in the twilight of his career.

At 33, Erasmus is left with a few years in him, and his wish is to play as many games as possible before retirement, and City could be willing to offer him that.

After all, Erasmus did well for City prior to his move to Sundowns in 2020 where he also fell down the pecking order after some time.

He also had a fallout with Rulani Mokwena at Sundowns which prompted him to leave them for a return to Pirates.

“The Siya crew understands that City is a possible destination for the 33-year-old, having previously made an impact at the club before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020,” reads part of the report.

“Erasmus enjoyed his football while he was at City, finding the back of the net regularly during his time at the club. The club had previously signed players who made an impact while they were in their 30s.”

“Both Teko Modise and Mpho Makola made a good contribution at the club in the latter years of their careers,” added the report.

At City, Erasmus scored 17 goals and registered three assists in 42 matches across all competitions before Sundowns signed him.

It is at Pirates where he has enjoyed his football the most but his first stint was the most successful one as he spent three seasons.

Erasmus has scored 26 goals and provided 19 assists in 117 matches across all competitions over two stints.
