25-year-old Salenf was named the PSL Players’ Player of the Season and MTN8 Last Man Standing awards last term. Unsurprising, given that he notched 15 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. He was the only man in South Africa to bag double figures for both. How can a player realistically be expected to replicate that?

Ligue 1 giants Monaco have reportedly expressed their interest in Saleng, as have Danish side Odense. That sort of fanfare is bound to distract any player and the Pirates man is no different. Has his head been turned? It could explain his bit-part role this season, which included another bench role in the win over TS Galaxy. He wasn’t even brought onto the pitch, again.

If the Buccaneers board can reel in an offer over €3m (over R60 million), maybe now is the best time to sell. His value will never be higher than it is now, and those funds could be reinvested smartly in local talent.
